CEPS Project

European Ecosystem of Excellence in AI

0

The European Union lacks a coordinated approach to the development of artificial intelligence (AI). This has led to a fragmented and inefficient AI ecosystem. Furthermore, there is a missed opportunity to estimate the demand for skills leading to “good jobs” and creating long-term prosperity. This project will allow CEPS to implement a number of initiatives aimed at promoting the creation of a European Ecosystem of Excellence in AI.

These initiatives include producing an Atlas of AI, which will map the AI landscape in the EU and help analyse the European AI market, as well as identify possible new research questions, policy measures, and infrastructure needs; developing datasets on jobs and industrial specialisation, which will help to identify the skills that will be needed in the future AI workforce; and targeting civil society and citizens through initiatives such as foresight workshops, podcasts, and roundtables, which will help to raise awareness of the importance of AI and build support for the project’s goals.

The project will contribute to evidence-based policymaking in the EU through more granular information on the AI ecosystem, and possible ways to link existing AI hubs. It will provide detailed proposals on how to build the AI Ecosystem of Excellence in the EU and ensure that AI permeates the EU economy in a way that is sustainable from an economic, social and environmental perspective. The project will also enhance understanding of the skills that will be needed in the future AI workforce, in particular for the creation of “good jobs” and contribute to increased public awareness of the importance of AI through events, podcasts and non-technical summaries of the research publications, aimed at civil society.
