The overarching purpose of this study is to investigate developments in upward convergence, between EU Member States and regions, for selected economic, social and institutional indicators. The focus of the analysis is on the geographical dimension of convergence, hence highlighting similarities and differences within and between geographical clusters, with the purpose of explaining diverging patterns in Southern and converging patterns in Central-Eastern Member States and regions.
