CEPS Project

Feasibility study for the creation of a CMU Equity Market Index Family

1

DG FISMA has commissioned a consortium led by the CEPS to conduct a Feasibility study on the creation of a CMU Equity Market Index Family (FISMA/2018/087/E).
Currently, only a small selection of EU-listed companies is included in EU-wide equity indices calculated by international index providers. Some capital markets of EU Member States are not classified at all by the large index providers such as MSCI and FTSE. This prevents international institutional investors, especially index investors, from being able to take positions in those mostly Eastern European markets.
The purpose of the study is to assess the feasibility of creating a CMU index family to support capital markets development in accordance with the CMU Action Plan.
