Climate diplomacy under Art. 6

0

In-person, closed-door event

Article 6 of the Paris Agreement is increasingly the main arena where carbon markets and climate diplomacy converge. It offers countries a range of mechanisms to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions whilst supporting the transition from international credits to compliance carbon markets, mobilising climate finance for energy transition in emerging markets, promoting cleantech trade, reducing compliance costs and strengthening industrial supply-chain resilience.

Countries are already exploring the role of Article 6 within both domestic and international climate strategies, with options such as transition credits and nature-based credits emerging as potential crediting mechanisms. This CEPS roundtable will discuss Canada’s approach and assess whether it may provide lessons for the EU.
