Isabel Scheckenbach

Head of Climate Programme

Isabel Scheckenbach is Head of the Climate Programme within the Energy, Resources and Climate Change (ERCC) Unit. She is responsible for driving policy research in carbon markets, industrial decarbonisation and the relation between climate and the environment. At CEPS, she brings a commitment to independent, evidence-based analysis and a particular interest in how climate policy translates into investment risk, capital allocation and competitive strategy for European industry.

Isabel is a sustainability expert with over 13 years of international experience at the intersection of climate policy, nature risk and sustainable finance. Her background in finance, sustainability strategy and risk management gives her an unusual vantage point on how science-based sustainability practices translate into competitive advantage, long-term resilience and strategic value creation for European businesses.

Throughout her career, Isabel has advised executive leadership and boards of multinational organisations on a broad range of sustainability challenges, from designing sustainability strategies, assessing and quantifying climate- and nature-related risks, to supply chain due diligence and governance. She has consistently argued that robust sustainability reporting, data-driven KPIs and credible disclosure frameworks are not compliance burdens but tools for enhancing transparency, strengthening competitiveness and directing sustainable finance flows where they are most needed.

Isabel holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Regensburg, with a thesis focused on behavioural and environmental aspects of sustainable finance, and a Master of Science in Applied Economics and Finance from the Copenhagen Business School.
