Roundtable Discussion with Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner: Balancing Surveillance and Privacy
This lunchtime roundtable, jointly organised by the CEPS Digital Forum and the Justice and Home Affairs Unit, offers a unique opportunity to discuss key issues on the transatlantic digital agenda with Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner. Congressman Sensenbrenner is a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives (R-WI), Chairman, Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and author of the US PATRIOT Act.
Congressman Sensenbrenner is in Brussels as part of a project to bridge the transatlantic ''digital disconnect'', sponsored by Johns Hopkins University's Center for Transatlantic Relations. CTR Director Dan Hamilton and other US experts will join the conversation. Topics for discussion will include the status of the US FREEDOM Act, which is intended to strengthen legal limits on surveillance activities, provide for enhanced representation of privacy protections and legal redress, as well as allow companies to share more information about government requests for customer data.
