The ambition to reach a net-zero emitting European economy by 2050 will require to take a fresh look at the full suite of solutions needed. Changes will ultimately be triggered by
developing new approaches, mind-sets and behaviours. This event will aim at providing new solutions and fresh perspectives that can facilitate the achievement of climate neutrality,
i.e. options we can propose to the member states that face the biggest difficulties in meeting the target.
The event will combine inspirational contributions from well and lesser-known out-of-the-box thinkers with comments by high-level policy makers, industry representatives and other
A new approach to carbon policies is the underlying theme of the conference, that is, moving from single, often technology-specific policies (e.g. efficiency, renewables, forestry
etc.) to a more encompassing framework which can make use of a complete toolbox without taboos. This toolbox’s broad range of solutions span from CO 2 reuse, CO 2 removal,
carbon sequestration in agricultural lands and other sinks, and temporary off-setting to more radical alternatives such as direct air capture. Some of the discussion’s key words will
be value chain approach, deconstruction of industries (e.g. new base chemicals), industrial symbiosis, BECCS, carbonated building elements, soil carbon or carbon removal.
The conference will emphasize the first and foremost importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while keeping in mind that as time runs out, the EU and the world cannot
afford the luxury of leaving viable solutions out of the equation. There is a need to kick start a global movement to reduce and sequester as much CO 2 as we possibly can as fast as
