The EU’s approach to nature credits is still taking shape, making this the right time to engage in the debate before policy positions harden. The European Commission’s Expert Group on Nature Credits is expected to hold its fourth meeting this September, with written feedback from members due by end of August. This roundtable brings together a small group of practitioners, financial institutions and researchers to test three questions against real experience, culminating in a concise set of recommendations for the Expert Group:
- Based on the evidence so far from Finland, France and the UK’s models, which institutional approach should the EU converge towards?
- Compliance or voluntary use: can this remain undecided much longer, going into the Expert Group’s September meeting?
- If this room could send one recommendation to the Expert Group’s fourth meeting, what would it be, and which of the group’s five workstreams would it belong to?
