What’s at stake in the upcoming Hungarian elections?

0

Hungarians will head to the polls on 12 April to elect a new parliament in one of the most closely watched national elections in the EU. How have 16 years of Fidesz rule transformed Hungary’s government and public administration? How difficult would it be to roll back these changes? And what parallels can be drawn with the Polish case?

In conversation with three high-level experts, this event will dissect the budgetary sanctions that have been imposed on Hungary and their impact on citizens, while assessing the different ways EU institutions have dealt with the country’s democratic backsliding.

The discussion will also cover the most likely outcomes of the election and the potential consequences, with a particular focus on the strained relationship between Hungary and the EU. The discussion will also dissect what a new Hungarian government might impact the EU and the 2024-29 mandate’s priorities.
