This Task Force aims at informing the policy debate on e-evidence in criminal matters, as it unfolds at the EU and international level.
The Commission proposal to introduce European Production and Preservation Orders and the recently adopted US CLOUD Act want to create a transatlantic playing field for law enforcement access to personal data held by private companies. The Task Force will investigate the potential implications that these new EU and US initiatives for electronic information-gathering in criminal investigations might have on transnational frameworks for judicial cooperation, current business practices and fundamental rights.
Participation to the Task Force is highly recommended to experts in criminal law, privacy and data protection, civil society and private sector representatives, IT specialists as well as to national and European policy makers and practitioners working on the field.
This Task Force is implemented in the framework of the JUD-IT Project (Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters and Electronic IT Data in the EU: Ensuring Efficient Cross-Border Cooperation and Mutual Trust), which is co-funded by the European Commission (DG for Consumers and Justice) and coordinated by CEPS.
