Social Rights and the EU

Achievements, Challenges and Ways Forward

0

EuSocialCit is a 4-year international research project concerning social rights and European social citizenship within the EU. As the project has reached its end, we just released four publications and a video that summarise the main findings of the research and propose policy recommendations:

The State of European Social Rights and European Social Citizenship

  • An up-to-date analysis of the current state of social rights in the EU, their relationship to social outcomes (e.g. social inequality, gender inequality, poverty, precariousness) and gaps in their functioning. Moreover, it examines the social and political demands for change among citizens and the constraints and opportunities these create for advancing the EU social agenda.

The Future of Social Rights in the EU

  • In a novel assessment of EU social citizenship’s future, the Report redefines the trajectory of European social rights. By delving into the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights and addressing pressing issues like difficult access to social rights and lack of social protection, each chapter offers actionable recommendations. The report offers a comprehensive roadmap for achieving a more sustainable and equitable Social Europe.

Navigating the Gender Divide Through Social Rights

  • By analyzing the complexities of gender inequality in Europe, this report unveils why traditional welfare models fall short. From unequal wages to caregiving responsibilities, it critiques entrenched biases and explores transformative solutions. With a focus on Early Childhood Education and Care, the paper highlights its role in empowering mothers and reducing inequalities. It offers actionable recommendations to foster greater gender equality.

Enhancing Access to Social Rights in Europe

  • This policy brief outlines three sets of policy recommendations, aimed at strengthening the social rights of EU citizens. They concern (1) social inclusion and minimum income protection; (2) better access to social rights; and (3) the strengthening of social governance.
