Natural gas from the Mediterranean region: What role in the energy transition after the Winter Package?

0

The transition of the EU electricity system will require major investment in low carbon sources among them renewables, often intermittent. In parallel, the EU will also require investment in flexibility, i.e. flexible sources as back for intermittent renewables.  Natural gas will play a role as will however also storage and demand-response. This joint meeting of CEPS Energy Climate House and Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) in Rome will discuss the role of natural gas from the Mediterranean against the role of a rapidly changing EU electricity sector following the European Commission’s Winter Package.
