Launch of a CEPS-ECMI Task Force Report that aims at describing and analysing (cost-benefit analysis) current policy options. The text bridges current proposals with current market developments and existing literature. It covers three major areas: transparency, market structure, and provision of investment services. Furthermore, the Report identifies failures and recommends, where possible, potential solutions. Finally, the Report tries to strike the correct balance between three major principles: market stability and integrity, market efficiency, and investor protection.
The group of the joint ECMI/CEPS Task Force on the MiFID Review includes major market participants, such as regulated markets, institutional investors, investment banks, commercial banks, and MTFs. The Group acknowledges the importance of ensuring appropriate coherence between the new MiFID text and other forthcoming regulations, whose interplay in the implementation process will need to preserve legal certainty. The European Securities Markets Authority should ensure that this process will be then harmonised across Europe.
