A big political change has just taken place in Moldova. Following a major constitutional crisis the government dominated by the oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc for a decade has withdrawn, and been replaced by an unexpected coalition of the pro-Russian Socialist party and the pro-European ACUM party group, with Maia Sandu of ACUM as prime minster. The new government features several apolitical ministers, including Nicu Popescu, as Foreign Minister. CEPS is delighted to host Minister Popescu to given an account of the new politics of Moldova, especially so since he is a CEPS alumnus having begun his career as a researcher with us.
Nicu Popescu’s speech will be followed by a comment by Thomas de Waal of Carnegie Europe, and then Q & A. Chair: Michael Emerson, CEPS.
