The current global food system is facing unprecedented stress. Some 815 million people around the world are starving today, while 2.1 billion people are obese or overweight. Despite increasing global hunger, a large portion of crop and food production is funneled into animal feed and biofuels, while one-third of food production worldwide is wasted or lost along the food chain. Europe is preparing to cut farm spending. Will this help spur needed development of agriculture to feed hungry mouths in Africa and the rest of the developing world? How do we measure agricultural and nutritional sustainability?
In an effort to address these questions, the Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition (BCFN) Foundation, in partnership with CEPS and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN SDSN), is bringing together stakeholders to discuss #migration, #foodsustainability and #CAP.
Andrea Renda, CEPS Senior Research Fellow, Paolo Barilla, BCFN Foundation Vice President, Phil Hogan, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, and musician and activist Bob Geldof head the star-studded lineup of speakers.
The forum will take place at the Square, Brussels.
