In a world stricken by Covid-19, more and more activities are being conducted over the internet. A new CEPS research paper argues that Europe needs to act swiftly to allow and encourage the private sector to leverage its world-class public sector digital verification infrastructure.
Coronavirus makes progress in digital identity and verification more pressing than ever; contactless identification is the ultimate social distancing tool. Even when the pandemic subsides, the implementation of effective digital identification will be required.
Unfortunately, too many activities in Europe continue to depend on face to face or paper documentation, which creates unnecessary friction and costs up to 3% of EU GDP.
The European Commission is preparing a new regulatory framework to jumpstart its digital verification project.
Please join us as we present our findings on how Europe can take advantage of all the benefits digital identification has to offer.
