Strengthening the EU’s industrial competitiveness, in alignment with the goals of the European Green Deal, will be a top priority for the next European Commission. Among the key upcoming initiatives announced are a Clean Industrial Deal, an Industrial Decarbonisation Accelerator Act, and a Circular Economy Act. However, there is still limited understanding of the complex, cross-cutting implications the twofold transition towards a circular and carbon-neutral economy will entail for European industry. This generates uncertainties, particularly in energy-intensive sectors, which ultimately affect investment decisions.
Two EU-funded projects, TRANSIENCE and AMIGDALA, are developing advanced modelling tools to help address these challenges. In this context, the projects are co-organising a workshop to bring together stakeholders from policy, industry, research and civil society to identify key transition challenges and explore realistic pathways for advancing the EU’s industrial transition through enhanced modelling.
By facilitating open discussions on these critical issues, the workshop aims to offer tailored scientific support to policymakers while addressing the real-world needs of industry. Key questions include: What is the strategic significance of maintaining industrial production in Europe? What technological challenges and solutions are critical for achieving a low-carbon, circular industry? How does the political dimension factor in? And what uncertainties, risks, and potential lock-ins hinder progress towards a sustainable, low-carbon, circular economy?
This event is organised in the context of the Horizon Europe Cluster 4 projects TRANSIENCE and AMIGDALA, which are co-funded by the EU.
Lunch will be provided from 13:00 to 14:00
