Announcing the CEPS R&D Perspectives: how the EU can lead the world on science and innovation in health and agriculture

0

CEPS is stepping up its research on innovation policy in Europe and today, we’re launching something new.

The CEPS R&D Perspectives is a series of thought pieces by leading scholars, scientists, business leaders and policymakers, focused on global health and agrifood R&D. The goal is to make the case for smarter, better-funded EU investment in research and innovation and put forward concrete proposals ahead of the post-2028 EU budget.

The series will cover the full landscape: from non-communicable and communicable diseases (including AMR and emerging pathogens) to agricultural R&D, food systems, and frontier technologies like gene editing, synthetic biology, and mRNA platforms. Papers will explore what AI and big data are unlocking for discovery and prediction, examine personalised nutrition and precision medicine, and spotlight mental health, women’s health, and One Health approaches. Running through it all: how the EU can sharpen its strategic positioning in a shifting geopolitical environment.

To back it all up, we’ve built a comprehensive data mapping of Europe’s specialisation in global health and agriculture R&D, covering competitiveness positions, investment opportunities, technology interrelations, and collaboration networks. Explore all 347 interactive visualisations here.

All Perspectives will be published on CEPS Helix. Watch this space!
