Deepening EU-Ukrainian Relations

What, why and how? Second edition

Michael Emerson / Veronika Movchan / Steven Blockmans / Hrant Kostanyan / Guillaume Van der Loo

This Handbook, now in its second edition, represents the most comprehensive and independent assessment of the Association Agreement and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) between the EU and Ukraine. It is one of a Trilogy of Handbooks, alongside comparable publications on Georgia and Moldova.

For Ukraine, the signing of the Agreement in 2014 was an act of strategic geo-political significance. Emblematic of the struggle to replace the Yanukovych regime at home and to resist the attempt by Russia to deny its ‘European choice’, the Agreement is a defiant statement of Ukraine’s determination to become an independent democratic state. This second edition adds new value in charting Ukraine’s progress in putting the Agreement into effect.

The Handbooks have been described as a ‘one-stop guide’ or ‘bible’ on the Agreements, and are thus indispensable reference materials for policy-making officials in both the EU and the three countries, as also for leading business interests, academia and non-government organisations.

This Handbook is co-edited by Michael Emerson, Associate Senior Research Fellow at CEPS, and Veronika Movchan is Academic Director and Head of the Center for Economic Studies at IER. Other CEPS contributors to this volume included: Steven Blockmans, Hrant Kostanyan and Guillaume Van der Loo. Other IER contributors included: Yevhen Anhel, Oleksandra Betliy, Kateryna Furmanets, Iryna Kosse, Olha Krasovska, Kostyantyn Kravchuk, Vitaliy Kravchuk, Veronika Movchan, Yuliia Oharenko, Mykola Ryzhenkov and Oleksa Stepanyuk.

Co-published with Rowman and Littlefield International (RLI), this book can be purchased for £24.95, either in paperback or as an e-Book from the RLI website (www.rowmaninternational.com).
