CEPS is proud to announce the appointment of Elżbieta Bieńkowska as the new Chair of the CEPS Board, marking a historic moment as she becomes the first woman to hold this prestigious position.

In her new role, Elżbieta Bieńkowska will work with CEPS’ Board, along with the dedicated team of CEPS researchers, policy analysts, and experts. She will provide strategic direction to the organisation, with a particular focus on safeguarding its status as a truly independent think tank, as well as supervising the management team and CEPS’ financial performance.

She brings with her a wealth of experience in public administration at both the national and European levels. Notably, from September 2014 to December 2019, she served as the European Commissioner for the Single Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship, and SMEs.

She was also a member of the Polish Senate, Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, Minister for Infrastructure and Development, and Minister for Regional Development in the government of Donald Tusk.

“I am honoured to be selected. I am committed to sharing valuable insights and knowledge with people from all over Europe, together with my colleagues from the Board and the devoted CEPS team”

CEPS is confident that her extensive expertise and leadership qualities will greatly benefit the organisation as she takes on her new role of Chair of the CEPS Board. We very much look forward to her valuable contributions towards ensuring CEPS’ continued and future success.

Elżbieta Bieńkowska succeeds Joaquin Almunia, who will remain on the Board. “For the first time since its creation forty years ago, CEPS has a Chairwoman. Elzbieta Bienkwoska will lead an outstanding team of researchers, and together with her colleagues at the Board, will contribute with her experience to define their priorities for the challenging times the EU is facing” commented Almunia.
