The NATO Washington Summit: Reinforcing NATO, supporting Ukraine, strengthening Europe

In person event

The upcoming 2024 Washington Summit will take place amid new dynamics on the battlefield. While it is worth celebrating NATO’s achievements over the past 75 years and the various rounds of enlargement that have occurred over that time, NATO leaders will have to go beyond the festivities and agree on further concrete initiatives to support Ukraine’s defence.

Although Ukraine’s membership will not be on the agenda, the Summit will address the proposed 100 USD billion assistance fund to coordinate arms transfers and training.

Other partnerships will also be at the forefront of discussions, with NATO recognising the importance of Mediterranean, Gulf, and Indo-Pacific security for the North Atlantic in an increasingly interlinked world. Leaders will engage on how to reinforce these partnerships to push back against Chinese revisionism and accusations of applying double standards when it comes to promoting values.

This panel discussion will also address the major challenges facing the transatlantic community in the run-up to the Summit as well as assess the impact of European Parliament and US elections on transatlantic security and defence.
