Future of Europe

Discussion with Commission Vice-President Jyrki Katainen

0

Third Meeting of the Future of Europe series.

Ten years after the signing of the Lisbon Treaty, the EU formally launched the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) on 14 December. In light of a changing security environment, the process of closer cooperation in security and defence aims to enhanced coordination among Member States and increase investment in defence and cooperation in developing defence capabilities.

In the conference on 19 January 2018, European Commission Vice-President Jyrki Katainen will give his views on the future of European defence.

For some time now, Europe has been facing both intense internal pressures and complex external dilemmas. To help the EU move beyond these challenges and reflect on the opportunities that lie ahead, CEPS has launched a series of events on the Future of Europe.

The series features high-level policymakers, academics and think tankers in discussion about the desirable objectives and possible actions in key policy areas, from the economy and euro area governance to social policy, migration and security.
