Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used in a wide variety of industrial and retail services. Its diffusion promises to massively change market structure, the competitive dynamics and the business models used to deliver services to end users. At the same time, the pervasive use of AI in price-fixing and decision-making algorithms is met with increasing concern by civil society and advocacy groups, not to mention those pessimists that fear that machines will one day take power over human beings. Hal Varian, acclaimed scholar and Google’s Chief Economist, come to CEPS to offer an economic analysis of AI and its revolutionary potential. His speech will be commented upon by two EU officials, in what promises to be a fascinating discussion on AI, and how Europe wants to develop it.
