Priorities of the Romania’s Presidency

to the Council of the European Union

0

From January to June next year, Romania will take over the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union. So far, Romania’s forthcoming presidency has been viewed with much scepticism by critics, even fuelling rumours of a swap with Finland.

But Romania’s Presidency certainly will take place next January, and the country is determined to get the work done while showcasing its leadership in the Union.

It has the firm support of Justice Commissioner V?ra Jourová, who made it clear that she is relying on the Romanian Presidency “to finalise a lot of things on the EU agenda”.

Furthermore, Romania is well-prepared: the process of defining and structuring the topics of interest started in September 2017, by means of three rounds of extensive consultation among key public authorities, the European Parliament, the European Economic and Social Committee and the European Committee of the Regions. The endeavour continues over the first part of 2018, through the “EU-RO 2019” Forum for public consultation, communication and debates for preparing and exercising Romania’s Presidency.

CEPS is proud to have Romania’s Ambassador to the EU, Lumini?a Teodora Odobescu, speak about the top priorities of Romania’s presidency. It will be an opportunity for CEPS’ audience to get to know the key areas of the upcoming Presidency agenda.
