We continue our collaboration with WIK on regulation of powerful digital platforms.

This one-day event will examine a series of European Commission proposals designed to insure that platforms act fairly for both their business users and consumers. Over the past few years, the Commission has put forward legislation to “promote fairness and transparency for business users of intermediation services” (Platform B2B), “a framework for the free flow of non-personal data in the European Union,” “concerning the respect for private life and the protection of personal data in electronic communications” (ePrivacy), and a telecoms package that regulates Internet messaging services.

The overall goal is to strike a balance between data protection and a thriving data economy. Discussion will include  new developments revolving around online platforms, algorithms, artificial intelligence, voice assistants and the Internet of Things (IoT) further challenges for policy makers are likely to arise.
