Expert workshop #1

Upon Invitation – under Chatham House rules

Online on Teams

In light of a renewed policy debate around nuclear energy in this EU political cycle, CEPS is conducting an evidence-based assessment of the role of nuclear power in Europe’s energy and industrial strategies. This project aims to provide an independent analysis of the policy, regulatory and industrial frameworks surrounding nuclear energy in the EU. It will examine the current state of play and the potential for scaling up nuclear deployment, both large-scale and small modular reactors (SMRs), as well as associated technological, economic and political challenges.
This workshop – the first in a series of CEPS events on this topic – will bring together a select group of experts and stakeholders to gather input on key issues facing nuclear energy in the EU in terms of policy, regulatory and economic challenges.
Discussions will be organised around two core themes:
  • The role of nuclear energy in the low-carbon energy system
  • The economics of nuclear and the enabling policy and regulatory environment for its development
