Ahead of the upcoming European Council meeting on 26 and 27 June, Vice-President Reding will outline the European Commission's contribution to the broader reflection and her personal vision on the future EU justice policy. Her intervention is especially timely, ahead of the adoption of the strategic policy guidelines for the next five years EU (post-Stockholm Programme) agenda on justice and home affairs. Viviane Reding will also address other questions of central importance for challenges faced by citizens and businesses alike, such as ways to deal with current obstacles to free movement and citizenship rights and the role that an EU level mechanism to safeguard rule of law across the Union plays in fostering a common European Area of Justice.
This meeting falls within the framework of the SOURCE (Virtual centre of excellence for research support and coordination on societal security) project which is funded by the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration. Participation is free of charge. The Justice and Home Affairs Section of CEPS is a partner in the SOURCE network. For more information about the project see: http://www.societalsecurity.net/.
