In person workshop
The built environment will be one of the priorities on the agenda of the new Commission. Following the focus on operational carbon, i.e. the carbon emitted during use, attention has now shifted to the so-called grey carbon, i.e. carbon emitted during the construction phase. This requires focus on materials including low-carbon materials, re-use and recycling, but also a life-cycle perspective. Elongating the lifespan of a building can significantly reduce carbon consumption. All elements of a building’s value chain, from primary materials to heating and cooling, have the potential to lower emissions. Focusing on neighbourhoods instead of individual buildings also offers further reduction potential.
This workshop will combine discussions of case studies and research with the quest for pragmatic solutions in the age of a new balance between economic security, competitiveness and decarbonisation.
This event is part of CEPS Construction Day.
CEPS Construction Day is the first time that the work on future construction and innovative construction materials by CEPS and project partners, notably ReConstruct and Carbon Exit, will be discussed and presented in its entirety. It consists of two distinct events on the same day:
• A workshop where innovative projects and research will be presented and discussed with stakeholders.
• A high-level seminar focusing on the future of construction, whereby solutions to address life-cycle emissions will be discussed.
