How can nuclear get back on track in the EU?

Finding a role in the decarbonised energy system – and what it takes to deliver new build

2

In-person roundtable

Upon invitation – under Chatham House rules

A need to double down on climate goals, combined with the strategic drive for homegrown energy and the containment of energy costs for industries and households, has brought nuclear energy back into the EU’s political and policy spotlight. In several Member States, existing nuclear fleets continue to supply large volumes of low-carbon electricity and new nuclear investments are being considered. Meanwhile, others are reconsidering earlier phase-out decisions or exploring nuclear energy as part of their future energy mix.

In this in-person roundtable, CEPS convenes experts and stakeholders to discuss the current state of nuclear energy – from its benefits in the decarbonising energy system and related economic considerations, to the policy and regulatory environment at EU and Member State level, to the nuclear industry’s capacity to deliver new build projects.

The discussion will cover both conventional large-scale reactors and small modular reactors (SMRs).
