Gender equality: Can we achieve it in old-age pensions?

MIGAPE Final Conference

0

In the EU, men generally receive a 30% higher pension than women. In some member states this Gender Pension Gap is even substantially higher.

Over the past two years the MIGAPE (Mind the Gap in Pensions) project has assessed how interactions between broad gender differences in the labour market and features of pension systems affect the gender pension gap. We focused on care responsibilities and activities.

The conference will showcase results from the project and stimulate discussion.

Addressing the gender pension gap straddles several themes within the European Pillar of Social Rights initiative, including gender equalityold age income and pensionschildcare and long-term care. Against this overarching background, the conference also comes in the context of the European Commission’s Gender Equality strategy 2020-2025 published in March 2020, and the forthcoming reports in 2021 on the economic impact of ageing (the Ageing Report) and pension adequacy (the Pension Adequacy Report). Importantly, we will engage with social partners.

MIGAPE is co-funded by the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme of the European Union (2014-2020) via Grant Agreement no. 820798.
