Fostering European leadership for the new space race

Launch event for CEPS’ Space Task Force Report

In-person event

In the last few decades, space has been recognised as a strategic pillar underpinning Europe’s competitiveness, economic security, digital infrastructure, and defence capabilities. Yet despite strong research capabilities and industrial expertise, Europe has been losing ground to other global powers in consolidating, advancing, and making its space sector a flagship industry. A lot of questions remain about the necessary investments to bridge this gap, how to deal with fragmented ecosystems, and how to establish a long-term vision for Europe’s role in space.

In 2025, CEPS conducted a Space Task Force with industry leaders, policy experts, academia, and Member States. This event marks the public launch of the Task Force’s Report and aims to shed light on some of the questions regarding Europe’s role in space. During the event, we will present the main findings and open the floor for a meaningful discussion on the next steps.
