The new ASILE Forum ‘EU Temporary Protection Responses to the Ukraine War and the Future of the EU Asylum System’ has been published on the ASILE Website. CEPS is hosting an event to launch the Forum with two panels addressing different aspects of the EU’s response to the forced displacement of people from Ukraine.
The first panel will bring together academics who have contributed to the Forum. It will focus on the European response to the mass displacement from Ukraine, the activation of the Temporary Protection Directive 2001/55/EC and the issues of non-discrimination and solidarity. The second panel will consist of experts from Turkey and consider what lessons can be learned from Turkey’s response to the mass influx of Syrian refugees and its temporary protection policy. The discussion aims to aid the EU in developing more effective responses to the large-scale influx of people from Ukraine and ensure better protection of displaced persons.
