In-person event
In an increasingly conflictual world the EU faces growing challenges in its foreign and security policy. Multipolar rivalry, regional fragmentation and intra-EU contestation hamper the Union’s external action.
In a recently published book, authors Riccardo Alcaro and Pol Bargués examine how the EU responds to major crises, some of which have now come to a boil. They shed light on the EU’s role as a ‘relational power’: one that amplifies its members’ influence without wielding autonomous strategic power.
In view of possible turning points, including a second Trump administration, they also consider future scenarios for reform or disintegration of the EU’s foreign and security policy.
In this event, Riccardo Alcaro will discuss how internal and external constraints shape EU policy.
The event is part of the REUNIR lecture series.
