Following an evaluation of the Directive on Security of Network and Information Systems (NIS Directive), the European Commission adopted a proposal for the revision of NIS in December 2020 (NIS2). A new approach, characterised by systemic and structural changes, was proposed in the revision, based on a new policy concept and set of options and measures, and an impact assessment of the proposed changes.
In line with the Commission’s priorities to make Europe fit for the digital age and to respond to the challenges arising from the increasing digitalisation of the internal market, accelerated by the Covid- 19 crisis and the evolving cybersecurity threat landscape, the Commission has proposed a detailed legislative framework that entails a significant upgrade for cybersecurity, also in view of the diffusion of IoT, 5G and future mobile networks.
In this context, CEPS is promoting the creation of the NIS2 FORUM, as a platform for discussion among EU institutions, industry, academia and civil society on the NIS2 proposal and its evolution through a series of workshops/meetings related to specific topics stemming from the analysis of the proposal and the development of the legislative process.
The workshops will be conducted under Chatham House rules as “Fishbowl-conversations” allowing in this way to offer the possibility to all participants to actively contribute to the discussion.
The online kick-off event will take place on the 24th of June at 3 pm.
