Building skills to unlock the twin transition and empower youth

In-person event

The European Year of Skills officially launched on 9 May 2023. The initiative aims to give fresh impetus to up- and re-skilling to ensure that the European workforce is equipped for not only the twin digital and green transition but also a just skills revolution.

As the rapid growth of digital and clean technologies makes labour markets increasingly volatile, it is crucial to reflect on which skills are needed, how traditional educational systems should adapt to provide students with the relevant competencies and skills, as well as how lifelong adult learning opportunities can successfully deliver up- and re-skilling. In short, ensuring EU citizens are empowered with the necessary skills and knowledge so they can thrive in a rapidly changing economy is crucial to creating a sustainable and inclusive future.

This event brings together a diverse community of youth associations, experts, educators, and policymakers to address the following questions:

  • How can we future-proof the labour market?
  • What are the new competencies and skills needed to power the twin transition?
  • How can we nurture skills to empower individuals to confidently shape their own futures?
  • What strategies should we pursue to equip younger generations with these skills?
  • How can policymakers support the development and implementation of these strategies?

With a panel discussion followed by an interactive Q&A session, the event will allow for a real exchange between the audience and speakers.
