“A digital renaissance in Europe” aims at presenting European policymakers with a two-fold challenge: 1. enter the metaverse, and 2. improve private-public collaboration. The latter is an essential condition to achieve the former, and to stimulate the full development of the extended reality industry in Europe – estimated to be worth around 800 billion Euros by 2030. To reach such a goal, Europe needs to be ready to take centre stage in the global tech competition. This, in itself, requires that policymakers collaborate with associations and the private sector to set standards. At the European level, the Capital Markets Union needs to be pushed forward so as to incentivise investments, especially in sectors that were damaged by the Covid-19 pandemic.
