Nord Stream 2 and EU Energy policy objectives

Nord Stream 2 remains a highly controversial issue at the European level. Its supporters underscore the project's strategic importance for the European gas market and natural gas’ importance for EU decarbonisation. Critical voices claim that it would reinforce Gazprom dominant position counter the EU’s efforts to diversify its sources of supply for example by discouraging investment into alternative infrastructure. Many legal issues continue to be discussed.
