Macedonia and the Western Balkan Region on the Road to the European Union

The election of Zoran Zaev as Prime Minister in June marked the close of a dramatic and prolonged political crisis in Macedonia. The new government has embarked on a comprehensive reform programme to catch up on lost time, with the objective of obtaining the green light from the EU for the opening of accession negotiations next June.These developments bring a welcome boost to the Western Balkan Region as it pursues its journey towards the EU.
