Understanding the EU cybersecurity market

In view of the economy's increasing dependence on electronic communications and infrastructure, and the growing threats to network security, the cybersecurity industry itself is critical to assuring the development of a Digital Single Market. CEPS and SCF Associates Ltd have been commissioned by the European Union Agency for Network and Information Security (ENISA) to research the market for network and information security (NIS) products and services in the EU. The NIS market includes all products and services that protect the ICT assets and operations of consumers and companies (the public sector is excluded from the study), e.g. firewalls, antivirus, encryption, identity and access management, managed security services, and so on.

The study aims to understand the current market in selected areas of application, such as online banking, online market places, cloud storage, wireless telecommunications, and online media services in EU and EFTA countries. The main objectives are to identify and analyse those NIS sectors in which EU companies may have market advantages over non-EU players (and those NIS sectors in which they do not) and analyse the reasons for this. Recommendations will be put to the European Commission and member states to enable NIS products and services to benefit from the Digital Single Market.
