Inclusive socio economic development for the MED region – EMNES Tunis conference

The Euro-Mediterranean Network of Economic Studies (EMNES), led by CEPS, held its first international conference in Tunis on 15 December 2016. Opened with a speech by Tunisia’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the event welcomed the participation of high level experts and policy-makers from the Mediterranean region, as well as researchers from the IMF and partner institutes in the network. The main objective of the project is to provide policy options and recommendations to achieve an inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development model for the Mediterranean region that is centred on employment creation. In this perspective the discussion focused on the three main areas: the role of institutions and features of the labour markets; the economic fabric of the countries, in particular the importance of micro, small- and medium-sized enterprises; and not least the level of financial development.
