FirstRun Project: Investigating the future of the EMU fiscal governance
On September 16th, CEPS hosted the first of a series of meetings organised under ‘Firstrun’, a 3-year project funded by the European Commission in the framework of the Horizon 2020 programme. Started in March 2015, the project aims to investigate the need for fiscal policy coordination in the EU. It will assess the coherence of the recent economic governance reforms and identify new reforms needed to fill gaps in the existing framework. In the current policy debate, the existing governance system is widely considered inadequate or even flawed, but there is still no consensus on which is the best way forward. In this context, the project is highly topical. Participants will grapple with such questions by combining academic research based on economic modelling with policy analysis and political economy considerations.
