EU ceramics and glass industries – a Cumulative Costs Assessment
CEPS, in partnership with Ecorys Brussels and Economisti Associati, is carrying out a Cumulative Cost Assessment (CCA) of the EU ceramics and glass industries for the European Commission’s DG GROW. A so-called ‘Open Mirror Group’ workshop took place at CEPS on April 26th, involving the research team and various stakeholders to discuss the rationale, methods, scope and progress of the CCA. Chaired by Jan Maarten De Vet (Ecorys), the event was introduced by Ima Gomez-Lopez (European Commission), followed by a presentation of the project by Felice Simonelli (CEPS). A panel comprising the main EU associations representing ceramics and glass manufacturers in the EU discussed the relevance of the CCA for their respective industries and a Q&A session extended participation to various participants offline and online. Participants acknowledged the importance of conducting such regulatory assessments for European industry and expressed their appreciation to the research team for the identification, assessment and, where possible, quantification of cumulative costs generated by selected areas of EU legislation (e.g. energy, environment, climate, internal market and competition) on the two sectors during the period 2005-14. The final report will be published in April 2017.
