The CAP after 2020

One week after the European Commission launched a public consultation on modernising and simplifying the Common Agricultural Policy post-2020, CEPS and the Danish Agriculture and Food Council (DAFC) jointly hosted two panel discussions on February 9th on the future of the EU’s CAP. This well-attended event gathered leading academics and representatives from the EU institutions, national authorities and the agri-food industry. Niels Lindberg Madsen, Head of the DAFC’s CAP division, chaired the first panel on the key challenges for EU agriculture to become more sustainable and competitive and the importance of consumers in shaping the policy.

The second panel was chaired by CEPS Senior Research Fellow Jo Swinnen and considered the economics and politics of the CAP after 2020, with speakers discussing potential reforms of the CAP support system, such as new risk management tools, and budgetary and political challenges. The recommendations of the EU Agricultural Markets Task Force on the EU food supply chain were also presented and considered. For more information contact Giulia Meloni
