This paper examines the formidable set of security challenges facing the EU in Central Asia in light of its recently adopted strategy towards the region. It begins by examining the differing definitions of ‘security’ and disjunctions within Central Asia before moving to a discussion of the linked challenges of extremism, drug trafficking and potential instability. Recommendations are presented in the conclusions.
