Improving the Functioning of the Clean Development Mechanism - Side event at the UN Climate Change Summit in Montreal
Date: 6 December 2005
CEPS, jointly with the Climate Policy Research Programme (Clipore) of the Swedish Mistra foundation, organised an official side event at the UN Climate Change Summit held in Montreal. In the event CEPS Senior Fellow Christian Egenhofer presented his new report on Improving the Clean Development Mechanism (co-authored with Louise van Schaik and Deborah Cornland). The report presents the outcome of a research project and seminar organised by the European Climate Platform (ECP) on the functioning of the Clean Development Mechanism, one of the Kyoto Protocol’s market-based instruments for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The side event in Montreal was chaired by Bo Kjellen, co-chair of the ECP and featured a keynote speech by the South African Environment Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk as well as a keynote speech by the Secretary-General of the Austrian Environment Ministery, Werner Wutscher. It also contained a panel discussion with a presentation by Jürgen Salay from the Climate Change unit of the European Commission and Dirk Forrister from Natsource. The event was very well attended by many delegates.
