Adaptation as a Strategic Issue in the Climate Negotiations - Side event at the UN Climate Change Summit in Nairobi

Date: 11 December 2006

On 11 December 2006 CEPS jointly with the Climate Policy Research Programme (Clipore) of the Swedish Mistra foundation organised an official side event at the UN Climate Change Summit held in Nairobi. In the event Clipore Fellow Sivan Kartha presented his new report on Adaptation as a Strategic Issue in the Climate Negotiations (co-authored with Preety Bhandari, Louise van Schaik, Deborah Cornland and Bo Kjellén). The report presents the outcome of a background study and seminar organised by the European Climate Platform (ECP) on adaptation as a strategic issue in the climate negotiations. The side event in Nairobi was moderated by Deborah Cornland, Clipore Program Director and featured a keynote speech by the Head of the Climate Delegation of the Finnish Presidency of the EU Outi Berghall as well as a speech by Chief Advisor of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Frode Neergaard. It also included comments by Mozarahul Alam from the Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies and Phil O'Keefe from ETC International. The event was very succesful and was attended by many delegates.

The event was covered in the Earth Negotiations Bulletin On the Side.
